I discovered the voice of Emma Shapplin in 1999, while in Jerusalem. Actually we were driving back to Jerusalem from the Dead Sea in the late afternoon, it was a beautiful day, and the haunting, ethereal-touching voice of Emma from the car’s CD player transformed the picturesque hilly landscape into the setting where the awesome, mythic, resonances of that land enacted in front of me.

What a brilliant singer, what a voice, the feelings, times, places triggered by her voice, and so ably enabled by the score of French composer and pop star Jean-Patrick Capdvielle, and the accompanying musicians. An entire genre has been defined by this classically-trained singer entering the rock arena.
