A song from the dark night of the soul ...
From the Hindi film Bawarchi (1972). The song is sung by Manna Dey, the last surviving legend of Hindi playback singers. The lyrics were by Kaifi Azmi, and the music composed by Madan Mohan.
Life without you, what kind of life is that?
When flowers bloom, the heart's wilted
When fire catches, rain showers.

tum bin jeevan kaisa jeevan
phool khile to dil murajhaaye
aag lage jab barase saavan
tum bin jeevan...
roothe tum jabase piya
roothe tum jabase
soona sa hai man ka dhera
bairi hai duniya
baante koi kyon dukh mera
apane aansu apana hi daaman
tum bin jeevan...
kaise dil bahale
hansana chaahoon rona aaye
dhoondha jag saara
kuch na soojhe kuch na bhaaye
tod gae tum man ka darpan
tum bin jeevan...
kaise samajhaaoon
guzari kya kya beeti kya kya
poochhe yah duniya
kisake haathon yah dil toota
haal hua yah kisake kaaran
tum bin jeevan ...
Here's a film clip of the song.

You say that Manna Dey is the last surviving of the legendary Hindi playback singers...it should have been Hindi MALE playback singers...needless to say, two of the greatest FEMALE legendary singers are still with us by God's grace
